Solicitors have a long tradition of offering their professional skills to those who need it the most, yet who are often least able to afford it; for example, a variety of local firms offer a few appointments dealing with Family or Employment issues each week at Avon & Bristol Law Centre.
But, this type of pro bono service does not need to be restricted to the legal profession. You might be an artist or designer willing to offer your skills to help create promotional material or perhaps a builder willing to help out with maintenance and repairs. Whatever skill you have to offer, one of our members will be very grateful for your help.
Another good example is that students at the University of Law have offered their language skills to help translate forms and letters for clients and act as interpreters in client appointments; this means ACFA members currently have access to the following languages: Fijian, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, Hindi & Punjabi, Dutch, Russian, Chinese, Bulgarian, Mandarin, German and Czech.
